An estimated 30 per cent to 50 per cent of the food produced in the world goes uneaten. This startling revelation came at a summit in Chicago that also saw discussions as to how to reduce food waste.
Under such circumstances how would it be then easier to feed the world’s growing population?
If you talk of data, I must share with you the American sample – Do you know that the average American throws away 33 pounds of food each month – that is about $40 worth !!! It also means that in a year each person there throws away almost 400 pounds of food.
Further if the US Department of Agriculture is to be quoted, about 23 per cent of eggs and an even higher percentage of produce ends up in the trash.
Can we thus begin by NOT buying as much fresh produce as we normally do !!! And can we also be little more careful about our kitchen?
Please WASTE NOT.
