Peddlers in the Cannes Film Festival 2012

By Neeraj Bhushan

Peddlers – a Hindi movie – produced by Anurag Kashyap and Guneet Monga, has been selected to compete at the Critics Week at the Cannes Film Festival 2012.

Presenting here… this poster which is a special one for the Cannes Film Festival 2012.

The movie set in Mumbai deals with one’s inability to accept love in life… eccentric psyche… self-sabotage… care, comfort, tenderness and togetherness.

The storyline revolves around three people – a playboy intelligence officer who is a liar, a Bangladeshi immigrant who is on a mission and a young boy who has misled notions of rebellion.

Wait to watch love and destruction of it, as immediately after Cannes in few days from now, the film will see an Indian release (and may probably make its journey to other international festivals).

Cannes Critics Week is a parallel section at Cannes Film Festival that discovered filmmakers like Wong Kar Wai and Bernardo Bertolucci among others. Peddlers will also compete for the Camera d’Or.

Peddlers Director Vasan Bala’s debut in Critics Section at the prestigious Cannes…!

Isn’t it very interesting…!

Vasan Bala

I’m thrilled as the feature film has been selected to represent India at the 51st edition of Cannes Critics’ Week, a parallel section of the prestigious Cannes International Film Festival.

Starring Gulshan Devaiah, Kriti Malhotra, and Nishikant Kamat, it will be showcased alongside six other films from Spain, France, Argentina and Germany.

The film will compete for the prestigious Camera d’Or at the 2012 festival, the 65th edition of the cinematic jamboree.

The Gappuccino Adds: Best wishes to the first time Director, Vasan Bala.

Founded in 1962, Cannes Critics’ Week is the oldest parallel competitive section of the Cannes Film Festival.

It showcases first and second feature films by Directors from all over the world and only selects seven feature films each year.

And yes, Neeraj… it has a long-established tradition of discovering new talents including Bernardo Bertolucci, Guillermo del Toro, Ken Loach, Wong Kar-wai and Denys Arcand.

Kishore Lulla, Chairman & CEO of Eros International, said: “Eros is delighted to support talented new Directors in their work and is delighted that Vasan Bala, in collaboration with Anurag Kashyap Productions has had Peddlers shortlisted for the Cannes Critics’ Week.  With only seven films selected, this is an outstanding achievement, and Eros is proud to have partnered with Vasan and Anurag Kashyap in this venture.”
