Movie Time – India Box Office

How strange a feeling it is, in a span of two hours on a Thursday night the fate of a movie is decided and the reviews are out. So all the hard work put in the making of a film for so many years just rolls by in a matter of minutes by a handful of people. That either makes or breaks the movie. But there are a few crazy people like me who no matter the review, go and see the film and enjoy the fresh popcorn.

This awesome weekend the movies that are releasing in India – Madras Café, Planes, Elysium, Jobs, The Light and Kick Ass 2.

MADRAS CAFE

Madras CafeDirected by Shoojit Sircar, who has made films like, Yahaan and Vicky Donor earlier, Madras Café is a political spy thriller. The movie takes us two decades back in time to the Sri Lankan civil war.

Vikram Singh played by John Abraham is an officer in the Indian Army Special Forces. He is appointed by an intelligence agency to go for an undercover operation in Sri Lanka after the forced withdrawal of the Indian Peace Keeping Force.

Madras Cafe Nargis FakriJaya played by Nargis Fakri is a charismatic and passionate British journalist. She pursues the quest to reveal the truth behind the civil war. Together Vikram and Jaya fall upon a larger conspiracy by a faceless enemy.

The cast also includes Sidharth Basu as R.D, Prakash Belawadi as Bala, Ajay Rathnam as Anna Bhaskaran the LTF Chief Jaffna, Avijit Dutta as Swaroop, Dibang, Piyush Pandey and Rashi Khanna as Ruby Singh who debuts in Bollywood with Madras Café.

Director Shoojit Sircar says he wants to show that intelligence officers are ordinary people who live amongst us.

Well, John Abraham had to lose a lot of muscle to get the required look and also…do you know that this is the first movie in which Nargis Fakri’s voice is not dubbed.

Madras Cafe - John AbrahamMadras café has been shot in Sri Lanka, London, Thailand, Malaysia and India. The civil war firing scenes are shot in Bangkok as firing of the light machine guns used in the movie is not permitted in India.

Madras Café in a nutshell portrays the characters of LTTE leader V. Prabhakaran and war correspondents like Anita Pratap. The film projects the conspiracy of the assassination of Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

The Light Swami Vivekananda

THE LIGHT: SWAMI VIVEKANANDA

A film based on the life, beliefs and teachings of Swami Vivekananda.

Directed by Utpal Tutu Sinha The Light is a bilingual film in Bengali and Hindi. The cast includes Deep Bhattacharya as Swami Vivekananda, Gargi Roy Chowdhary as Sarada Devi and Courtney Steven as Sister Nivedita.

PlanesPLANES (English)

A light animated adventure sports comedy film directed by Klay Hall, Planes is the story of Dusty a crop duster plane who dreams of becoming a racer but is scared of heights.

Planes has voice overs by Dane Cook, Stacy Keach and Priyanka Chopra.

JobsJOBS (English)

They say it takes just one man to start a revolution and that is what our next film release is about. Jobs, directed by Joshua Michael Stern, is a biographical drama film based on the life of Steve Jobs the creator of the Apple Incorporated and the pioneer of the computer revolution.

Jobs is about the amazing journey of the life of Steve Jobs from where he was a student at Reed College in 1974 to when he introduces the iPod in 2001.

The cast includes Ashton Kutcher, Dernot Mulroney, Matthew Modine and Abby Brammell.

ElysiumELYSIUM (English)

The year is 2154 and the privileged live on Elysium, an advanced space station where there is no war, no sickness and no poverty. It is the most heavily guarded place in the universe and only one man from Earth can break into it to save the people on Earth.

Elysium is the story of one man’s struggle to overcome his fear and defeat an evil that has haunted him since childhood.

A science fiction-action-thriller film, Elysium is directed by Neill Blomkamp. The cast includes Matt Damon and Jodie Foster.

KA2KICK ASS 2 (English)

This is a super hero comedy film and a sequel to Kick Ass released three years ago. Directed by Jeff Wadlow, the cast includes Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Chloe Grace Moretz.

A group of super heroes try and live a normal life but fail in doing so and end up giving their identity.

POST EDITED – The movie Elysium did not release as expected on the 23rd of August which was the release date. The release is still awaited.
