Movie Time – India Box Office

A film with 30 actors made in 45 days splashes the screens today. Having won many accolades in film festivals abroad it releases in India this Friday. AISA YEH JAHAN – Directed by Biswajeet Bora and produced by Maya Kholie, the film emphasizes the need of saving the environment and giving a new meaning to life.

It is the story of a young Assamese couple who are struggling to find their feet in the city of dreams Mumbai. They have a small daughter and a domestic help and try to make ends meet in the tough lifestyle of Mumbai. The film shows how the detachment from nature has now become a big gap in our lives and how less we do to bridge the gap.Aisa Yeh Jahaan 2015 New Indian Film Starring  Palash Sen Ira Dubey and Kymsleen Kholie

The film also won an award at the International Film Festival for Environment, Health & Culture 2015, in Indonesia. In the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival Awards Aisa Yeh Jahan is nominated in the Best Feature Film and Best Ensemble Cast categories.

It has also won the Silver Award at the International Independent Film Awards at San Francisco and also won the Official Finalist and Recognition Award at the Mexico International Film Festival.

Palash Sen and Ira Dubey play the lead roles in this film. In others we have, Kymsleen Kohlie, Yashpal Sharma, Tinu Anand, Saurabh Pandey and Prisha Dabbas.

Aisa Yeh Jahan is India’s first Carbon Neutral Film. A carbon-neutral film is one which somehow compensates for the carbon emitted during its making through eco-friendly activities such as planting trees. 

The director Biswajeet Bora said, “The making of a film impacts the environment through use of electricity, fuel for travel and generators, plastic and other inorganic substances. We engaged a Mumbai-based NGO to assess the emissions associated with our film and spend as much on plantation.” 

The producer Maya Kholie said that she wanted a green tag for the film and so they planted around 400 saplings. She also said thast maybe she feels so as she comes from a part of the country where nature is worshipped.

The film has won many hearts abroad and now it screens in India. Will it be received in the same manner here also? It shall be known soon.

masaan-story_647_072215045645The other release this week is, MASAAN. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, the film stars Richa Chadhha, Vicky Kaushal, Shweta Tripathi and Sanjay Misra. The film deals with two causes simultaneously. One is the story of a young girl Devi who is caught in a compromising situation and she goes through a tough time in order to come out of it.

Another story runs parallel to this one.  It is the story of Deepak, who works on the ghats of the river Ganges where they burn pyres to cremate people. He hates what he does and wants to pull out. To make it worse he falls in love with a girl who is from the upper caste. 

Neeraj Ghaywan’s directorial debut Masaan, is an Indo-French collaboration and got a standing ovation at the Cannes Festival. The film also won the FIPRESCI prize in the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes. Masaan also brought home the  ‘Promising Future’ prize (Prix de l’avenir) for debut films.

Ant-Man-MovieNext we have ANT-MAN, directed by Peyton Reed, this is a superhero film.   It is the story of Lang who is a young man just out of jail. He becomes the Ant-Man, and is trained by Dr. Hank Pym. The Ant-Man is armed with a suit that allows him to shrink in size, possess superhuman strength and control an army of ants. He is the strongest when he is small. Now he has to use this learn how to use this technology and save everyone.

The film features, Micheal Douglas, Paul Rudd, Evangline Lily andCorey Stoll. Is Ant-Man the new superhero? Will he be able to create a place for himself in this world of strong superheroes!!!
