Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the film has already won a few awards in the Montreal International Children’s film festival and also the Berlin International Film Festival. Kukunoor always comes up with different breed of cinema, be it Dor, Rockford, Iqbal or Lakshmi, he has picked up an off beat theme. In this film too, he lives up to his expectations.

There’s nothing about a flying Sikh in Udta Punjab, it’s more about a Sikh on a high. This is in the genes of producer Anurag Kashyap that he portrays real life on reel as he did with much violent ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. True to his reputation, Kashyap has tried to highlight a typical chain reaction quite visible in Punjab, thanks to drugs.
Back from the success of a fiery Kashmiri youth, played by Shahid Kapoor in Haider, this actor was but the natural choice of the casting director of Udta Punjab, for showing the grave crisis that once vibrant and green Punjab is in, where everybody is getting stoned. The movie fans must watch this latest Bollywood flick to put up a grand show before the powers that be, that creativity must not be chained or bobbitized, especially in the wake of the controversy the movie generated in run up to its release.
Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, the film features Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Dilip Dosanjh and Satish Kaushik.
If you want to avoid the chaos and stay away from the controversies there is some light entertainment in our English releases this week.
