This week we have Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ as the sole release on the day of Eid which is a Wednesday. It is heard that Shahrukh Khan’s film ‘Raees’ and Steven Speilberg’s ‘The BFG’ got postponed so that they do not clash with ‘Sultan’ at the Box-Office.
Directed by Ali Abbas Jafar, this is a sports drama film and is produced by Yash Raj Films. Ali Abbas Jafar has done films like ‘Mere Brother Ki Dulhan’ and ‘Gunday’.
He was very surprised when Salman said yes to ‘Sultan’. “I went to him for a narration. He heard me for 30 minutes and said it sounded good. After that everything fell into place,” says Ali. He also said that Salman Khan transformed himself emotionally and physically to play the character of Sultan.
The film is the story of a simpleton in a village in Haryana. He falls in love with a girl Arafa, who is a wrestler and her only aim is to win a Gold medal at the Olympics. And so to prove his worth he trains to become a wrestler and achieves fame at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, the 2011 FILA Wrestling World Championships in Istanbul and the 2012 London Olympics.
Tragedy strikes and he takes a back seat in life. It is then that a young boy Akash Oberoi who is trying to save his company from an apocalypse comes to look for Sultan all the way to his village. As he knows that it is only Sultan who can save his company from the upcoming disaster.
Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma had to go through a lot of physical training for Sultan and it surely shows in the trailers. They seem to have done a good job. Well, almost all Salman films turn into hits commercially, it is to be seen if Sultan does the same too.
Till next week… Ciao!
