Rajnikanth, will reel actors be real actors!

There is a noticeable trend that all the beauty pageant winners end up in Bollywood and eventually almost all Bollywood biggies end up in politics. Do they serve any good to Bollywood or politics? Even in last general elections lots of people from films contested from different constituencies. Some lost, some won, as expected. The ones who won were Hema Malini, Kiron Kher, Paresh Rawal, Vinod Khanna, Moonmoon Sen, Shatrughan Sinha among others.

Losers included Gul Panag, Rakhi Sawant, Ravi Kishen, Smriti Irani, Bappi Lahiri, Nagma, Mahesh Manjreker, Prakash Jha, Raj Babbar and Javed Amongst them Smriti Irani still became a minister having been already in the Upper House. It is rare that these Bollywood people have any political blood. Still, they manage the right contacts to enter politics. But for what?

Even on the big screen, we have seen so many actors playing big politicians. The first which comes to mind is Suchitra Sen (Aandhi, 1975) and then we have Amitabh Bachchan (Sarkar, 2005), Anil Kapoor (Nayak, 2001), Manoj Bajpai and so many others.

It cannot be said if all these people actually helped even their co-stars, what to talk of seeing them impacting the society effectively. They are just elected for being popular figures, and even re-elected from time to time, like Dharmendra and now deceased Vinod Khanna. Many of them are simply there for the sake of convenience, be it Hema Malini or Mithun Chakraborty who feature in commercials as well. What positive change Shatrughan Sinha, Dharmendra or Raj Babbar have been able to bring about is beyond comprehension.

Then, many others ended up in politics just like that, be it Vyjayanthimala, Jaya Prada, Javed Jaffery, Kiron Kher, M.G Ramachandran, Moon Moon Sen, Paresh Rawal, Rekha, Jaya Bhaduri, Lord Krishna fame Nitish Bhardwaj, Ravana fame Arvind Trivedi, Chiranjeevi, Mohan Babu, Dara Singh, Deepika Chikhalia or Sunil Dutt, and they have had huge fan followings for reasons best known to their followers. N.T.Rama Rao and J Jayalalitha, however, could be altogether different case studies, for their rise to stardom and then becoming chief ministers.

And have you already started counting Rajnikanth in? But I did not mention him in my story at all. Did I?
